We are examining the process of race bias control
in social situations to understand how individuals’
intentions to control race bias sometimes fail and to assess
the signal for control in social situations. Previous research
in the lab using EEG has focused on how good people are at
realizing they might be acting with race bias. This research
found that brain activity calling for more careful responses
is stronger for people who are more efficient at controlling
their race bias. Currently, we are using EEG to investigate
how social situations affect this “signal for control.
