My major area of research interest is health psychology, with a special emphasis on smoking and other
addictive disorders. My students and I conduct research on such topics as the assessment and treatment
of addictive disorders, the impact of drugs on affective and motivational systems using behavioral and
psychophysiological indices, and statistical modeling of important addiction phenomena such as relapse.
In addition, we are very involved in public health policy through activities such as the Robert Wood
Johnson National Program Office "Addressing Tobacco in Managed Care.”
