My research focuses on vulnerability and invulnerability to depression. I am particularly interested in the developmental,
cognitive, motivational, and cultural determinants of information processing about the self. Recently, we have begun to
explore the effects of early psychological, physical, and sexual maltreatment on the development of cognitive styles and
vulnerability to depression in adulthood. Finally, I have expanded my research program to include bipolar and eating
disorders, particularly bulimia.
