Research Interests

What is the relation between body systems of emotion and language understanding? My research shows that body states of emotion influence comprehension of emotional language, and conversely, that emotional language influence body states of emotion. These findings are congruent with our everyday experience with emotional texts. But what are the mechanisms of this interaction?
Current Research

How is conceptualization reliant on perception and action processes,
and how does language illustrate this reliance? Some language
powerfully effects our bodies. For instance, why, when we listen to or
read emotional stories, do we become emotional ourselves? We have found
that variations in emotional states influence the ability to process language. My current research is investigating the mechanisms by which facial expressions influence language understanding.
