I am a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison (B.S., Psychology, 2003; M.S. Psychology 2004), currently pursuing a joint PhD in Psychology and Industrial Engineering and Systems Engineering.

My research interests are twofold.  First, I am interested in executive control involved in working memory, and, more generally, in human cognition.  My current research investigates the nature of executive control, e.g., whether control is accomplished via a unitary mechanism or separable mechanisms.  Furthermore, what could these separable mechanisms be, how do they interact, and how do they contribute to a wide range of cognitive processes (e.g., reading, learning, problem solving) and general fluid intelligence?

My second interest is in the application of basic behavioral science to real-world situations of human performance, especially in relation to health care work.  To this end I am concurrently conducting Human Factors Engineering research in Health Care Patient Safety through the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering.  To find out more about this research, please click here.
