ISI has released its ranking by average citations per paper, of the top 100
federally funded U.S. universities that published at least 300 papers in Thomson
Scientific-indexed psychology journals between 2000 and 2004. In it, the UW-Madison
ranks #5 in citations per paper, and #2 in overall number of papers. For more

Wisconsin Top-5 among Clinical Psychology PhD programs
In a recent peer-reviewed study* "based on quantifiable measures of faculty
publications and citations," UW-Madison ranked #1 in citation ranking, and #9 in
number of publications ranking, for a composite ranking of #3. The authors
characterize this study as "the first study to rank clinical psychology Ph.D.
programs on objective and systematic data of individual faculty" and note that
because "the number of publications and citations are typically used to evaluate
faculty for promotion and tenure, " these rankings have "a level of validity in
assessing prominence that is not present in survey data" that is typically used
in rankings that are published in the popular press.

Department receives Presidential Citation from APA
American Psychological Association presents this Presidential Citation to
Department of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin, Madison
In recognition of the Department of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin,
Madison, for its exemplary support of psychological science and the American
Psychological Association for more than a century. Beginning with the
establishment of Joseph Jastrow's laboratory in 1888, Wisconsin has
attracted some of the country's most outstanding psychological scientists.
These scholars and their students have produced tens of thousands of articles
over a wide range of topics in psychology, making a rich contribution to the
development of the field. Wisconsin faculty members Joseph Jastrow, Harry
Harlow, and Frank Farley have honored the Association by serving as APA President
, and several have received APA Distinguished Scientific Contribution Awards.
Currently four faculty members edit APA journals, and several others serve as
leaders in the APA governance system, including the Publications and Communications
Board and the Board of Scientific Affairs. APA greatly appreciates the outstanding
individual contributions of these distinguished scientists and the
department's
legacy of extraordinary service to the discipline.
