UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

Important Note: The positions listed here are exclusively for students enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. There is no payment other than academic credit. You must be a UW-Madison student to apply for these positions.

This listing contains research labs within the Psychology Department and our affiliated faculty members which bring in undergraduate research assistants. Just because a lab is listed here does not guarantee that there are current openings in the lab. It is up to the students to contact the labs to see if and when there are openings available.

Notes regarding course credit: For each credit a student is enrolled in he or she is required to work approximately 3 hours a week. So, if a student enrolls in 3 credits he or she is expected to work approximately 9-10 hours a week. Different labs have different policies on meeting times and work hours so it is important to discuss this with the lab manager or faculty member. Students may carry no more than 3 credit hours each semester. Students will read material related to the project, and the student will be expected to produce a piece of written work (evaluated by the faculty member).

Prerequisites: Enrollment in all undergraduate independent study/research courses requires consent of the instructor. In addition, students must have sophomore, junior, or senior standing.

Opportunities to earn course credit: The faculty members listed in the above document sometimes have opportunities for undergraduates to participate in research in their labs. Follow the links to find out more about the positions that may be available and contact the faculty member or lab manager for more information.

Level III Substitution: Students completing two semesters of research may have the opportunity to substitute their research for one level III requirement. It is important to discuss this with the lab manager/faculty member. In order to receive the substitution a student must fill out the top of the research contact in their first semester and complete the bottom of the form (and turn it in to one of the undergraduate advisors) in order to make the substitution complete.
