The UW–Madison Psychology undergraduate program rose in the 2027 U.S. News and World Report rankings, rising from 19th to 8th Best Undergraduate Psychology Program nationwide and from 8th to 4th among public universities, underscoring the department’s excellence as a leader in psychological science.
“I suspect we’re seeing the cumulative effects of years and years of sustained excellence,” says Department Chair C. Shawn Green. “Our faculty continue to produce influential research, we ensure that our students have access to exceptional educational opportunities that serve as a springboard to successful and meaningful lives, and together that all results in a strong national profile for Wisconsin Psychology.”
In a University statement addressing the rankings, interim Chancellor Eric Wilcots acknowledged that “these rankings — while only one measure of a school’s success — reflect the incredible breadth of educational programs, research opportunities and cross-campus collaborations that makes UW–Madison unique. From real estate to psychology, nursing to engineering, and in every discipline on campus, we are dedicated to excellence and preparing today’s learners to be tomorrow’s forward-looking leaders.”
